Why do you go barefoot?

Image
by sharleen wl a while ago someone asked a question on the reddit barefoot sub: "why do you go barefoot?" the following was my answer: "i love the feeling of walking barefoot on different surfaces. from soft dirt and mud squishing between my toes to grass covered in morning dew to the cool floors of a supermarket on a warm summer day. it also allows me to better connect with nature and the world around me. going barefoot also gives me the sense of freedom of not having my feet cooped up in restrictive socks and shoes which make them hot and sweaty. ngl, in my case there's also the rebellious factor. i'm a free spirit who enjoys breaking norms, and going barefoot and getting my feet all dirty is one way to do it." now let me elaborate on this a little. my love for going barefoot began when i was just a toddler and refused to keep my shoes on no matter how hard my parents (especially my mom) tried which drove them nuts. i would often get yelled at and sometime...

Fun barefoot weekend with family

by sharleen wl so last weekend my family decided to get together at my parents' house. i was excited cuz although we live on the same island, i very seldom get to see everyone. i got off work a little early on friday like around 4 pm. as i got to my apartment i immediately changed into my favorite attire - a tank top and ripped jeans shorts and got ready to leave. there wasn't much to pack as i would be wearing the same clothes the whole weekend. so all i brought were toiletries, my phone and charger, and some stuff for my parents and siblings which i put in my backpack. i didn't even bring any footwear since i was going to be barefoot the entire time. dad had offered to pick me up but i decided to take the bus instead. it's actually more fun. seriously. i love riding the bus barefoot. i put on my new pair of nerdy glasses (ya, i started wearing glasses like a month ago) and walked to the bus stop. a nerdy look and bare feet are the bomb, lol. while i was sitting at the...

Going Barefoot in Class Benefits Students

Hey everyone, how's it going? This is gonna be a short post. I was just checking out what's going on in the barefooting world, and I came across an article titled "Students to go barefoot in class as experts highlight benefits of 'shoeless' learning." I thought that sounded really cool as I'm a strong advocate of going barefoot. So I decided to read the article. It's about a research that was initially conducted by the students themselves. It cites the benefits of going barefoot in class for primary school students such as helping them learn better and even improving their behavior, and now the school (a primary school in London) is starting to implement "shoeless lessons." Fantastic, right? Well, there's just one big problem. At least with what's shown on the page. In the pictures the students are NOT actually barefoot. They're wearing socks! Ugh! Wearing socks is not the same as going barefoot. Just like when you're we...

I Have A Dream (The Barefoot Edition)

Image
If you have gone barefoot in stores or other establishments on a regular basis (especially in the United States which is known as the land of the free ), most likely you have experienced some form of discrimination ranging from the mildest (like getting dirty looks) to the harshest (like being yelled at, kicked out, or in very rare cases, even arrested). Ideally, barefooters should never be discriminated against as we don't break any law or hurt anyone by going barefoot. It's totally a personal choice, and we should be allowed the freedom to live the lifestyle that we love. This wish is wonderfully expressed in the following short article. I Have A Dream (The Barefoot Edition) by Steve Barefoot -I have a dream that one day, all across this nation, people will be able to go barefoot in public places without fear of ridicule and judgment. -I have a dream that one day, people who wear shoes will not look at people who don't wear shoes as disgusting or mentally cha...

The Birth of a Barefoot Angel

Some of you who have read my little sister's article titled "Barefoot Girl Favorite Sibling" (link at bottom of post) may be wondering why our youngest brother Kevin found her so attractive. Well, Sharleen (a.k.a. Lynn) didn't tell the whole story as the article is already quite long as it is. We didn't want to turn it into a novel :) So now let me try to fill you in so that it makes more sense. One day Lynn and I were flipping through the pages of a fashion magazine when her eye caught the picture of a very pretty model and she was like, "Wow, she's so beautiful. I wish I could look like her!" I looked at her face and said, "Hmmm... maybe you could!" She was like, "Really? You think so? How?!" "By changing your hairstyle," I replied. "Let's show it to Debbie and ask her what she thinks!" Our big sister Debbie agreed with me but she said Lynn would have to wait till her hair grew longer, at l...

The Failed Cute (Barefoot) Girl Trick

Image
by Sharleen W.L. Aloha, this is Sharleen! Hope your enjoying life as its meant to be wherever you are, barefoot or not. This is going to be a very short post for a change. :) Enjoy it! One evening my little brother Kevin and I were going out on a "mock date" (he loves to go out with his favorite sister ). I was barefoot and driving the BMW convertible with the top down. This car belongs to Tania and me (yeah, we used to share a room, now we share a car), and Kevin loves to ride in it especially when I'm driving. So as soon as we entered the freeway, I pressed on the accelerator with my bare foot, the engine revved, and the car zoomed past all other vehicles. Kevin had the thrill of his lifetime. He was like, "Wooww! You really know how to drive, girl!" He then jokingly said he felt like a million bucks riding in a hot car with a hot chick. Being in a naughty mood, I did that once with mom in the car, and she almost had a heart attack. Of course, sh...

Barefoot Girl, Favorite Sibling

Image
by Tania WL (as recounted by my sister Lynn) While I have been living the barefoot lifestyle pretty much since I was a kid, my little sister Sharleen (aka Lynn for short) was a little different. Although she never liked wearing anything on her feet as a kid, her barefooting was limited to inside and around the house. On occasion she would venture out barefoot in the streets of our neighborhood, but not in stores or other establishments. She was a late bloomer. Our little brother Kevin has never been a barefooter. He would go barefoot inside the house as it's the norm here on the islands, but once he stepped outside, even like to the backyard, he would wear Crocs (those shoes with holes on them), his favorite footwear. When we were kids he loved to play and hang out with Lynn coz he said she was the nicest of all his siblings. He didn't like me very much, even kinda afraid of me as I used to be mean to him. Yeah, I used to have a lot of issues as a child and could be nasty at ti...

Barefoot and Pregnant?

Image
When a barefoot girl got sick by Sharleen W.L. Barefoot and pregnant 11:30pm Sunday night - I just get home after a fun night out with friends. I'm barefoot as usual and my feet are pretty dirty but I'm really sleepy and tired, so I don't bother washing them before entering the house. I go straight to my bedroom upstairs, quickly brush my teeth, take everything off, and jump into bed and hug my Emo (teddy bear) tight. Yes, this is one of those instances Tania mentioned in one of her posts.* I'm awaken around 3am with a crampy tummy ache. At first I thought it was just gas and tried to continue sleeping. But the pain gets worse and now I'm also really queasy. I can't hold it anymore, so I run to the bathroom and throw up. Cold sweat runs down my neck. I'm kinda scared as this has never happened before. The last time I threw up was when I was 7 and got car-sick. I need to let my parents know, but I'm too weak to go down to the master bedroom. S...

Clean Vs Dirty Bare Feet

Image
by Tania WL If you have ever gone barefoot outdoors for any length of time, you know that getting your feet dirty is inevitable. Habitual barefooters can basically be classified into 2 groups: those who like having their feet dirty, and those who simply enjoy the freedom and the wonderful sensation of walking on different surfaces that going barefoot offers, but don't care for dirty feet. I belong to the former while my little sister Sharleen (a.k.a. Lynn), the latter. Getting your feet dirty is fun. To take it a step further, those who like dirty feet, especially guys, think they are attractive, and they get "excited" looking at them if you know what I mean (I have to be careful with my choice of words here in order to keep this blog family-friendly, lol). While I'm not one of them, I have to admit sometimes it's fun knowing that some guys have a time of their lives staring at my dirty soles. Well, I won't go much more into it as that's not what thi...
