Barefoot Halloween Stories

Hi everyone, this is Sharleen. How's it going? Are you still barefoot or is it too cold already where you live? I'm lucky to live in Hawaii where I can go barefoot all year. Well, spooky season is upon us once again. Over the years I've written a few barefoot Halloween stories  (yeah, barefooting and Halloween are a couple of things I really love), and I thought I would compile them on this page so it would be easier for you to find them. Most of them are posted in my other blog (the scary stories blog ). So I'll just briefly describe and link them here. Barefoot witch Click here to see more witch costumes The first one is about when I went trick-or-treating barefoot when I was 12 years old. I was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood who is often depicted barefoot. I did quite a bit of walking that night, so by the time I got home my feet were filthy. But I also saw something that kinda spooked me at one of the houses in the neighborhood. This story is kid friendl...

Going Barefoot in Class Benefits Students

Hey everyone, how's it going? This is gonna be a short post. I was just checking out what's going on in the barefooting world, and I came across an article titled "Students to go barefoot in class as experts highlight benefits of 'shoeless' learning." I thought that sounded really cool as I'm a strong advocate of going barefoot. So I decided to read the article. It's about a research that was initially conducted by the students themselves. It cites the benefits of going barefoot in class for primary school students such as helping them learn better and even improving their behavior, and now the school (a primary school in London) is starting to implement "shoeless lessons." Fantastic, right? Well, there's just one big problem. At least with what's shown on the page. In the pictures the students are NOT actually barefoot. They're wearing socks! Ugh! Wearing socks is not the same as going barefoot. Just like when you're we...

Barefoot at School Again | in the Principal's Office

Image
Barefoot at school story by Sharleen W.L. Note from Tania: my little sister Sharleen wrote this story and asked me to post it here. She will also be writing the next few articles on this blog. Enjoy! I wish I had gone to one of the public schools that allow students to go barefoot to school. Actually, I almost transferred to one, but for a number of reasons we finally decided against it. So what's a barefoot girl to do? Well, try to go sans shoes at school as often as possible which I did, and this time I got to do it in the principal's office. This took place when I was in elementary school. 4th grade to be exact. One Saturday morning I went out shopping at the mall with my mom and little brother Kevin. As usual I was barefoot. Yeah, in the beginning mom didn't approve of me and my sister going barefoot in public places but she finally gave in and now she's ok with it. As we were walking around in the mall we ran into my school principal Mrs. Scott (not her...

Going Barefoot at School

Image
Girl barefoot at school story Going barefoot to/at school is quite common in some countries like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and India (see the picture at the bottom of the post). It was also quite prevalent in the US in the old days. A few elementary schools in Hawaii still allow their students to attend school in bare feet. Unfortunately however, most kids today are denied this wonderful experience. So can you blame them for cherishing every chance they've got to go barefoot at school even if only for a brief moment? My little sister Sharleen (nicknamed Lynn) and I went to a private elementary school with a rather strict dress code. We had to wear uniform everyday that included a tie and white closed shoes. White socks had to be worn at all times in the beginning. Being an avid barefooter, I always wanted to be barefoot as much as possible. So I would usually take off my tie along with my shoes and socks on the (city) bus, and walk barefoot home from the bus stop...

Barefoot teachers

When you talk about going barefoot at school you likely think about students, and most of the time you would be correct. However, did you know there are also barefoot teachers? Not very many, but they do exist. I guess it's human nature to enjoy going barefoot regardless of the profession because it's just such a natural thing to do. The following are barefoot at school stories involving barefoot teachers . Below is another interesting entry from my old guestbook by a female barefoot teacher: "I'm a 28-year-old high school English teacher and all my students know me as "Ms. Feet" because I'm always barefoot in the classroom and most of the time around the campus. I haven't worn shoes to a video store in years and I also frequent the grocery store, the Subway sandwiches, Baskin-Robbins, the mall, the miniature golfing place, and Cal State Long Beach (where I'm attending night classes as well) in my most barest of feet. I've also gotten away ...
