Magical Barefoot Halloween

Image
by sharleen wl halloween and going barefoot - 2 of my favorite things. the things that make this life magical. i'm in my 20s now and i'm the same free-spirited soul i've been as a kid. only now i'm a bit more independent and i ain't about to let my love for the spooky season or my barefoot lifestyle fade away. in fact these passions have only grown with me. every october my excitement for halloween builds up like clockwork and i start planning my costume well in advance. this year i had the privilege of spending my favorite holiday in a rural area in washington state (like an hour from seattle) visiting emily, a good friend from college. the air is cool and crisp there in october which is really fitting unlike back home where it stays warm. the feeling of stepping barefoot onto the cold autumn ground was heavenly. although hawaii is paradise in many ways, this is something i miss out on. i had decided to dress as a forest fairy, a sort of mystical wanderer who draws...

Why do you go barefoot?

Image
by sharleen wl a while ago someone asked a question on the reddit barefoot sub: "why do you go barefoot?" the following was my answer: "i love the feeling of walking barefoot on different surfaces. from soft dirt and mud squishing between my toes to grass covered in morning dew to the cool floors of a supermarket on a warm summer day. it also allows me to better connect with nature and the world around me. going barefoot also gives me the sense of freedom of not having my feet cooped up in restrictive socks and shoes which make them hot and sweaty. ngl, in my case there's also the rebellious factor. i'm a free spirit who enjoys breaking norms, and going barefoot and getting my feet all dirty is one way to do it." now let me elaborate on this a little. my love for going barefoot began when i was just a toddler and refused to keep my shoes on no matter how hard my parents (especially my mom) tried which drove them nuts. i would often get yelled at and sometime...

Still barefoot after all these years

by sharleen wl the following took place some time last year when we were still in lock down and our restaurant only served take out orders. as i previously told you i was working as a cashier and they let me work barefoot since there were no dine-in customers. that particular day was quite busy, and one of the servers didn't come in, so they were underhanded.  i offered to help by bringing the orders out to the customers who were waiting in their cars outside. at first my boss hesitated cos i was barefoot but finally let me do it since they could really use my help. it was around 6:30 pm and it was still a little light outside. one of the servers asked me if i could bring out an order to the car parked right in front. i said sure. i looked at the receipt and saw the name was david. so i walked out and saw there was only one person in the car (the driver). he was wearing a hat and a face mask. so i went to the driver's window which was open and said, "david? here's your...

Barefoot related horror story

aloha everyone! this is sharleen with a little update. how's it going? things are improving here in hawaii and i hope its the same where you are. just hang in there, everything will get better. i'm now working 2 regular jobs - at the souvenir shop and the restaurant. the souvenir shop cut their hours, so i work there during the day, and at the restaurant in the evening. but since people are now eating inside again, they no longer allow me to work barefoot. oh well! it was nice while it lasted, and hey, it could be alot worse, so i'm not complaining. oh, and i still work at the tanaka's on weekends too (barefoot). so yeah, they all keep me busy. i'll post a more detailed update soon, but now i'd like to tell you about a new horror story that i just posted to my story blog. its based on an actual experience when i was a college student going barefoot to school and everything. you see, because i love going barefoot, i've met quite a number of guys with foot fet...

Dirty mouth, dirty feet, wild child

Image
by sharleen wl Hey, hows it going barefoot guys and gals? I know its been along time since I posted. School kinda got in the way. Then I got really sick over the summer while my family was on vacation overseas. Bummer. But I'm feeling much better now, and excited that October my favorite month is here. You may remember that I, unlike my big sister Tania, didn't really like having dirty feet. I would like wash my feet every day before entering the house or going to bed. That was when I was living with my parents, and I believe I was greatly influenced by my mom who was (and still is) a clean freak. Even before I became a barefooter she would tell me to wash my feet at bed time even when they weren't dirty. She was opposed to us going barefoot in the beginning but finally relented since many people do it here, but she wanted us to have our feet clean inside the house. Tania rebelled and didn't listen, but I at the time thought it was a good idea to have clean feet. ...

New barefoot Halloween stories

Image
How's it going everyone? Are you still barefoot or is it too cold already where you live? I'm lucky to live in Hawaii where I can go barefoot all year. Well, its that spooky time of the year again, and I have a treat for ya! I have written 2 new barefoot Halloween stories. Instead of cross-posting them I'll just link them here. Barefoot Red Riding Hood - Click for costume The first one is about when I went trick-or-treating barefoot when I was 12 years old. I was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood who is often depicted barefoot. I saw something that kinda spooked me at one of the houses in the neighborhood. This story is kid friendly which means its not so scary, and there is no profanity. Yeah, I can be a good girl once in a while, lol. The second one is about when I met a barefoot little girl on a cold and foggy October night , a couple of weeks before Halloween. It happened when I had to take the bus home after my evening class at college. This is quite a chill...

Lost in the Woods Barefoot

by Sharleen (Lynn) WL Author's note: In the spirit of Halloween, here's a little spooky treat for ya! ***** I'm a free spirit. Always have been. When I was a kid I often got in trouble for wandering away from whoever was looking after me, and taking my shoes off at every chance I got and running around barefoot. One day when I was in 4th grade we went on a field trip to a botanical garden located in a beautiful area just outside the forest. It was about 5 pm when we left to go back to town. A few minutes after we started, our bus had engine trouble. We were still in a tourist area, so the driver pulled over to a parking lot where many tourist buses were parked and called for a replacement bus. It was going to take a while for the replacement bus to arrive, so the teachers let the kids off the bus to play outside and enjoy the beautiful scenery, but they told us not to go too far from the bus, and to stay with the group. One of them even told me specifically with...

A Barefoot Girl in the Storm

Image
by Sharleen (Lynn) WL Author's note: This is a short story that I originally posted on Reddit . I have rewritten it in the first person. ***** It was a dark and stormy night, and it was still raining the following day into the afternoon. I had just finished eating lunch and was sitting cross-legged on the couch watching TV. Schools were closed as many of the roads and buildings were flooded. It was a week before Halloween, my favorite holiday. Normally, it would be an exciting time, but today I was getting a little bored and kind of tired of the rain. I actually loved the rain, especially dark and stormy nights. I would curl up in bed under the covers and read a ghost story book, and that's exactly what I did the night before. I loved being scared. Well, not too much, though. After all, I was only 9. But this weather had been a little too much even for me. I wished the sun had been out so I could go play outside with my friends again. I looked at my soles. They we...

Barefoot Girl's Adventure (Traveling Barefoot Part 2)

Image
by Sharleen (Lynn) WL This is part 2 of Traveling Barefoot . If you haven't read part 1 yet, you can find the link at the bottom of this post. We landed bright and early (around 8 am) at the Houston Bush airport. I was a little sleepy but very excited about the vacation. We had plenty of time before boarding our connecting flight to Orlando, and as we were walking in the terminal we saw a nice restaurant and dad decided to go in for breakfast. But he said to me, "We'll see if they'll let you in barefoot. If not, we'll just go to the food court and grab some fast food." I just smiled knowing that they would let me in. Yes, I believe is magic :) We were seated and served without any problem. As I was eating my nose was running again, and I kept sniffling. Mom finally told me to blow it. I was going to use the cloth napkin but she scolded me saying it was improper (I had done this before but she just never noticed, lol), and told me to go to the bathroo...

Traveling Barefoot

Image
by Sharleen (Lynn) WL The following took place a few years ago. It was early summer and we just celebrated my 10th birthday, but mom and dad still had a big surprise for me. They were going to take me to Disney World as a birthday present! Not the whole family was going, though. Tania was off to summer camp, and our oldest brother and sister had other plans. So it was going to be dad, mom, my little brother Kevin, and me. Traveling barefoot Needless to say, I was really excited and so was Kevin as he would get to spend an entire week with his favorite sister*. I had been a barefooter for almost a year, and had previously traveled completely barefoot**. But that was within Hawaii. This time it was a little different as we were going to the mainland (that's what we Hawaiians call the Continental US) which is not quite as barefoot friendly as Hawaii. So I asked dad if I could travel barefoot again this time. He said I could probably fly barefoot but I should bring footwa...

A Barefoot Nightmare - Those With No Shoes Please...

Image
by Sharleen W.L. I just finish eating lunch in the cafetaria with 2 of my friends, and were heading to our first afternoon class. I'm barefoot as usual. One of my friends is wearing shoes and the other flip flops. It really feels great walking around campus in bare feet. As we get to the building, both my friends head towards the restroom and tell me they'll see me in class since I don't need to go. So I climb up the stairs to the 3rd floor where our classroom is. The floors in that building are really grimy but it feels good on my bare soles. There are already quite a few students in the classroom. This is a discussion class, so there are tables with a few chairs around them. I spot a table with no one sitting at it yet which is perfect as my friends and I can sit together. There's a nerdy looking guy sitting at the next table busy with his phone. As I sit down he looks at my bare feet but doesn't say anything. He then makes a call and starts talking on...

The Bunny, The Witch, and The Barefoot Angel

Image
by Tania WL One day my little sister Sharleen went on a field trip to a forest reserve here on the island. It was really beautiful, and the weather was perfect. It was a little cool and sort of misty up in the mountains. Sharleen really loves nature, so while her friends were taking a break and playing games, she decided to take a walk along the creek and see what interesting things she could find. She felt her feet were getting hot and sweaty, so she sat down, untied her shoes, and took 'em off. Since she wasn't wearing socks, she was immediately barefoot. Aahh...it felt fantastic! That was actually against the rule since she was at a school function and wearing her uniform, but she didn't give a f*ck. Her feet had to be free in such a wonderful place! She figured if she got caught, she would just apologize. No big thing. She didn't want to carry her shoes around either, so she just left them on the ground. She would put them back on when she returned. Or so sh...

Scared Silly - a Barefoot Halloween Story

Image
by Sharleen W.L. It was Friday evening about a week before Halloween back when I was in elementary school. As soon as I got home from school I took off my shoes and changed clothes as Kevin and I decided to walk around the neighborhood and look at some of the interesting Halloween decorations. I was, of course, barefoot while Kevin was wearing his favorite Crocs . We stopped at a house and admired the fancy decorations. An old lady walked out the driveway and said to us, "Hey, you kids wanna come in and take a closer look at these little ghosts and goblins?" I was like, "Sure!" and we walked into her front yard. "Be careful though, there are some slippery spots as I just watered the lawn. Especially you don't have any shoes on!" she said pointing at me. I was like, "Ok!" I really enjoyed stepping on the wet ground with my bare soles. Nice and cool. Something that Kevin missed out on. The nice lady showed us some of the animated spoo...

The Birth of a Barefoot Angel

Image
Some of you who have read my little sister's article titled "Barefoot Girl Favorite Sibling" (link at bottom of post) may be wondering why our youngest brother Kevin found her so attractive. Well, Sharleen (a.k.a. Lynn) didn't tell the whole story as the article is already quite long as it is. We didn't want to turn it into a novel :) So now let me try to fill you in so that it makes more sense. One day Lynn and I were flipping through the pages of a fashion magazine when her eye caught the picture of a very pretty model and she was like, "Wow, she's so beautiful. I wish I could look like her!" I looked at her face and said, "Hmmm... maybe you could!" She was like, "Really? You think so? How?!" "By changing your hairstyle," I replied. "Let's show it to Debbie and ask her what she thinks!" Our big sister Debbie agreed with me but she said Lynn would have to wait till her hair grew longer, at l...

Barefoot Little Angel at the Hospital

Image
by Sharleen W.L. One morning in early summer when I was in elementary school I went to accompany mom to the hospital for treatment of her arthritis. I decided to go barefoot and she didn't object. The treatment was to be done in the outpatient clinic, and when we arrived the nurse was all ready for her. She asked mom how she was feeling. Barefoot angel on duty "Well, I was a little nervous because of the potential side effects, but now I'm ok since many people are praying for me," replied mom. "Oh, you'll be just fine! And it's great that people are praying for you!" said the nurse. Then unexpectedly mom said this: "besides...I've got my little angel here with me!" while pointing to me. You see, mom is pretty strict and can even be a bit mean at times. She scolded me a lot, and sometimes even punished me when I was a kid, but she actually loves me very much. "Oh, how wonderful that you have a little angel!" sai...

You Can Go Barefoot!

Image
How to bribe a barefoot girl by Sharleen W.L. If you have read the story titled "Barefoot Sisters" you would know that in the beginning mom was so opposed to her kids going barefoot in public places, but she later gave in and allowed Tania and me to do so. The following took place in my early days of barefooting in public when I was in elementary school. It was 9:30pm on a Wednesday when dad was away on business. My oldest brother and sisters were still busy doing homework and studying, and my little brother was already in bed. I just got done with all my homework. I had karate class earlier in the evening, and so I took a shower when I got home. Btw, I got punished in class with doing lots of push-ups (I was joking around with another kid and wasn't paying attention to the instructor), so now I was a bit tired and sleepy. I was planning to go to bed a little earlier but wanted to kinda unwind first. So I decided to go to the media room and watch TV. Mom cam...
