Barefoot in public restrooms

Image
by sharleen wl a while back there was a post on reddit by a guy who said he was getting more and more comfortable going barefoot in public. he had gone barefoot to grocery stores multiple times and also to gas stations. but one day he saw another person walking barefoot into a gas station restroom and he thought it was gross and said he couldn't bring himself to do that. so he was asking whether he was right thinking that way. some say there's alot of "ick factor" in going barefoot in public restrooms. so its more like psychological as there's nothing really harmful on whatever you might step on on the floor as long as your sole skin is intact. others say it is indeed gross but you can wash your feet once you get home or you can carry some wet wipes. i had to chime in so this is what i basically said. "its more of a personal choice. like some people (like myself) love walking on mud but others not so much. some love squishing bugs with their bare soles while...

Barefoot shopping at the mall with mom

Image
a barefoot girl's story going shopping with her strict religious mom by sharleen wl hi everyone, how's it going? this is a rather long post but a pretty fun story. so i want you to get comfortable. get your favorite drink, maybe play some soft music, be barefooted (if you aren't already), take off all your clo... oops,  i'm getting carried away. i mean, you don't have to do that. unless your like me of course, lol. anyway, relax and enjoy! my dad is away on a business trip and my mom is home alone. so yesterday she called me and asked if i would wanna go shopping at the mall with her today (saturday). i love shopping so i said sure. she knows that i'm a barefooter and has kinda accepted the fact, so going barefoot to the mall with her shouldn't be an issue. i wake up a little earlier this morning cuz i wanna eat breakfast before going shopping. need the extra energy. the temperature this morning is 61 F which is cold for hawaii. i slept with my windows clos...

Barefoot at the farmers market

Image
a carefree barefoot lifestyle in paradise hawaii by sharleen wl i wake up this morning as the sun shines through my bedroom window and i hear the birds chirping. its satrurday and i don't have to work. i've been wanting to go to our town's farmers market which i don't get to do very often and today seems like a perfect day. so i walk to the bathroom to quickly brush my teeth and wash my face. i don't even comb or brush my hair cuz hey, its the weekend and i kinda like the messy hair look. after putting on a pair of shorts, a crop top and my nerdy glasses i step out of my apartment. barefoot of course. yep, messy hair, nerdy glasses and bare feet. what a great combination lol. there's a lot of big trees in my apartment complex and alot of birds which i enjoy watching. with that many birds there's quite a bit of shit on the ground which i likely step on but i don't really care. its all part of being in nature and living the barefoot lifestyle. its a sunny...

Going barefoot is gross

Image
by sharleen wl 'going barefoot is gross!' that's what i often hear from people when they first learn about my barefoot lifestyle or see me walking around in dirty bare feet. i don't only hear this from strangers but even some of my friends say it on occasion. in the beginning i would be embarrassed and would be somewhat reluctant to go barefoot in public. but at this point i no longer care. in fact i wear it as a badge of honor. i'm a free spirit, i live life the way i like it and don't worry about what other people say. gotta admit, personal hygiene isn't always my top priority (you may have already known this from many of my posts haha!). so i may be gross but i'm healthy and i live a fun and happy life and to me that's all that matters. so for fun i decided to experiment with ai. the following was written by chat gpt. ya, you can tell it wasn't written by me cuz the grammer and spelling are perfect lol. but don't worry it won't replac...

Working a barefoot job part 2

Image
A barefoot girl story about working barefoot by sharleen wl ok so i finally graduated from college. phew! i was this close to not making it but i finally did, and i'm proud of myself. and the best thing is i'm still barefoot. i've not been able to find a job in my field, and since i'm living on my own now, the part time job i had at the tanaka's* wasn't going to cut it. ya, my parents told me since i'm no longer a student, i couldn't continue to fully depend on them. i would have to try hard to support myself one way or another. they would still be there as a safety net. so i had to find a full time job whether in my field or not. it wasn't easy, and for many months i was living on instant noodels :) i had a few interviews (oh, i hate going to those cuz i have to dress up and wear shoes lol) but i didn't get any of the jobs. one day my young boss michelle told me that a friend of hers who owns a souvenier shop in a tourist area needed a ...

Another day in the life of a barefoot college student - 4 years later

Image
Another barefoot girl college student story by sharleen wl It was 4 years ago that I wrote "A day in the life of a barefoot college student" so you may be wondering why I'm still in school. Did I continue on to graduate school? Nope. I should've graduated at the end of last spring, but I have to retake a few courses and do some extra work before I can graduate. People tell me I'm too much of a free spirit, a wild child. I really love life, and I guess I've been enjoying it a little too much, and now I'm paying the price. Needless to say my parents aren't happy and they have been giving me shit about it. But hey, at least I didn't quit or flunk out (yet), right? As I wrote in my previous posts, I moved out of my parents' house at the beginning of my sophomore year. I'm living in a small apartment within walking distance from the college campus, and I work a part time job. One thing I cherish is that I'm barefoot 24/7 pretty much....

Working a barefoot job, spooky walk home

Image
A barefoot girl story about working barefoot and a spooky walk home by sharleen wl Tania graduated at the end of my freshman year in college (she's 3 years older than me), and immediately got a job downtown. Unfortunately she can't work barefoot which cuts down on her barefooting time. But she takes off her shoes in the office whenever she can and sometimes even walk around barefoot like to the break room. Its ok as long as her manager doesn't know :) She still lives the barefoot lifestyle outside of work. We agreed for her to take the car since she needed it more. My parents didn't want to buy me another car though, cuz I wasn't doing very well in college. They said I had become a wild child, and letting me have a car would only make things worse. So what were my options? I could take the bus to school but that would take alot longer and I would have to wake up earlier every morning. Or I could live in an apartment close to campus so I could just walk. The...

A Day in the Life of a Barefoot College Student

Image
A barefoot girl story by Sharleen WL I just started college a few months ago and so far I'm loving it. There is so much more freedom than in high school and not the least is the ability to go to school barefoot. This article is an account of a typical Monday. Unlike many people, I love Mondays coz to me its the start of a brand new week full of opportunities, a new chapter in my book of life ready to be filled with exciting experiences and adventures. Its 7am and I wake up feeling refreshed after a good night's sleep. Actually I'm having a bad cold, so my nose is pretty stuffy but I feel rested nontheless and excited about the day ahead. After washing up and everything, I walk over to the game room to join the family for our morning meditation. Its dad's idea to meditate together every morning and everyone loves it. The only religious person in our family in mom who is Catholic. Dad is kinda new-agey, and all my siblings and I are atheists. But we all feel the ...

Barefoot at School Again | in the Principal's Office

Image
Barefoot at school story by Sharleen W.L. Note from Tania: my little sister Sharleen wrote this story and asked me to post it here. She will also be writing the next few articles on this blog. Enjoy! I wish I had gone to one of the public schools that allow students to go barefoot to school. Actually, I almost transferred to one, but for a number of reasons we finally decided against it. So what's a barefoot girl to do? Well, try to go sans shoes at school as often as possible which I did, and this time I got to do it in the principal's office. This took place when I was in elementary school. 4th grade to be exact. One Saturday morning I went out shopping at the mall with my mom and little brother Kevin. As usual I was barefoot. Yeah, in the beginning mom didn't approve of me and my sister going barefoot in public places but she finally gave in and now she's ok with it. As we were walking around in the mall we ran into my school principal Mrs. Scott (not her...
